Return of ISIS Brides Raises Concerns Within the Yazidi Community

Updated: May 14

The return of women linked to داعش (ISIS) from camps in Syria and Iraq continues to raise serious concerns among the Yazidi community in Australia and around the world. Many Yazidi survivors believe that justice and accountability must come before reintegration, especially for individuals accused of involvement in crimes committed during the 2014 Yazidi genocide.

Thousands of Yazidi women and children were abducted, enslaved, tortured, and displaced during ISIS attacks on Sinjar and surrounding areas in northern Iraq. Survivors still carry deep physical and emotional scars, while many families continue searching for missing loved ones.

For Yazidis, the issue is not political — it is deeply personal. Community members are calling for transparent legal processes, support for survivors, and international recognition of the suffering endured by Yazidis under ISIS rule. At the same time, many emphasize the importance of protecting human rights and ensuring that justice is carried out through the courts.

Despite years of trauma, the Yazidi community in Australia continues to rebuild, preserve its culture, and advocate for truth, justice, and remembrance for future generations.
