Asim pêshimam and his wife, Dlvin Ali celebrated receiving Australian citizenship while wearing traditional Yazidi clothing in Toowoomba, Queensland.

Their decision to wear traditional attire reflected their pride in their Yazidi heritage and their appreciation for Australia’s multicultural values, which respect and celebrate diverse cultures and communities.

Having rebuilt their lives in Australia after the genocide committed against the Yazidi people in Iraq in 2014 by ISIS, the couple expressed their gratitude to the Australian Government for providing safety, opportunity, and a welcoming environment through the humanitarian resettlement program.

Today, they celebrate becoming Australian citizens while proudly preserving their Yazidi identity, culture, and traditions for future generations.

Congratulations to Bassim and Delveen on this important milestone.
