Commemorating the 11th Anniversary of the Yazidi Genocide

August 3, 2025, marks eleven years since the Yazidi genocide began in northern Iraq at the hands of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS). On this day in 2014, thousands of Yazidi men were executed, women and girls were enslaved, and families were torn apart in a campaign of terror that the United Nations has since recognized as genocide.

This anniversary is a solemn reminder of the deep wounds inflicted on the Yazidi community — not only through violence and displacement but also through the ongoing lack of justice and accountability. More than 2,700 Yazidi women and children are still missing, and tens of thousands remain in camps, unable to return to their homes.

Despite these hardships, the Yazidi people continue to show extraordinary strength and resilience. Survivors have become advocates, educators, and leaders, calling for international recognition, reparations, and support for their recovery.

As we commemorate this painful chapter in history, we stand in solidarity with the Yazidi community and reaffirm our shared responsibility to ensure that such atrocities never happen again.

Never forget. Never again.
