On 3 August 2014, the terrorist group Islamic State launched a brutal attack on the Sinjar region in Iraq, targeting the Yazidi community in what has since been widely recognised as genocide. Thousands of Yazidis were killed, and thousands of women and girls were abducted, subjected to violence, and forced into sexual slavery.
Among those affected was Fawziya Saydo, who was only nine years old at the time. Like many Yazidi children, her life was shattered by the أحداث of that day. Yet today, she stands as a powerful voice of resilience and courage.
Now based in Europe, Fawziya is rebuilding her life and transforming her pain into purpose. Through her work with Pena-Ger, she is not only receiving support but also contributing as a valued colleague and advocate.
Fawziya is actively working to ensure that the voices of oppressed women are heard—especially Yazidi women whose suffering has often been overlooked. By sharing her story, she helps raise awareness, challenge injustice, and keep the memory of the victims alive.
Her journey reflects the strength of the Yazidi people and the ongoing need for justice, recognition, and support for survivors.
